This has to be a joke. Hilarious, and I love the fact that the people that started this are probably now laughing their asses off at all the others that have followed...
Now if I could only find an article on suburban mop jousting...

Pilots say the damnedest things...
I've been meaning to post this one for some time...
On the flight back from Oregon, we landed a few minutes early in Chicago. After waiting about ten minutes to pull up to the gate, the pilot announced:
"We're sorry about the delay folks, but we arrived early and kind of caught them unawares. We'll have the doors open in just a few minutes."
WTF? Seriously? It wasn't like we were pulling up to our friend's house unannounced or something! Shouldn't someone have known we were going to be landing early?!
Surprise! We're here!

Ode to a Boss*
Each and every day I hope
but it’s to no avail,
that there could be a change, but nope
stupendously you fail.
You sidle up without a care,
I cringe and close my eyes.
the restraint I show is rather rare,
I should receive a prize.
I have to say it’s quite an art
that you can’t seem to see,
the question that you think is smart,
is dumb as dumb can be.
I know you think that I’m a dope
and speak to me as so,
but there’s a day I’ll laugh and hope
you like the taste of crow!
It’s true that you aren’t sharp of wit
but think of this old hen,
if respect is what you think you’ll get,
don’t treat me like I’m ten!
*any similarity to a real boss is purely coincidental. Everyone knows a boss would never really act like this...

Cicada Killer!
That title needed an exclamation point. Yes, it's the name of the bug shown below, but I just figured it was more dramatic this way.
Found this little guy...er, big guy...on my car tire yesterday. It's a GIANT of a wasp and it was holding on to this cicada. I was pretty sure the cicada was just stunned and that the wasp had pretty nefarious plans for it, but I was still curious about this thing.
A quick trip to www.whatsthatbug.com cleared it up for me. This site is absolutely fabulous if you are trying to identify some strange creepy crawler or get more information about a species.
Check it out. The carnage page is disgustingly hilarious.
*woah. click on the picture. It's awesome!

With Respect
To the birds in the back yard tree,
I must ask that you cease leaving your little white gifts all over my car. I'm sure that you have gained much respect in the bird world for your re-decoration of my vehicle but let me assure you, your attentions are unwanted.
You've managed to make my car look even more trashy than it already did, which is quite the accomplishment. I just wish the damned stuff wasn't so hard to remove!
Now, since I have no other place to park I am asking you nicely to find another tree. After all, you've really had the cushy life here. The man upstairs has even been nice enough to spread fresh grass seed for you.
So you see, although the tree above my car is no doubt lovely, you must vacate it immediately in order to continue our amicable relationship. I will expect to see a change in your behavior no later than Monday.
Thank you for your consideration in this very important matter.

Meet Bob...
This is my fern Bob.
Side Show Bob to be exact.
Sometime I'll have to tell you the funny story of how Bob and I got home on the metro.
But for now, he will just help me introduce my first mobile blog post with pictures!

Who'da Thunk?
I have begun a new adventure in sewing. I just hope I've begun early enough. I refuse to have more 14 hour sewing days...
Here's to hoping that this project won't be quite as difficult. So, what am I working on you ask?
Horse costuming.
No no! Don't adjust your monitor. You read that right. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be constructing a caparison. Call it what you will; caparison, trappings, barding, it's quite the project.
Here's a picture of a caparison...of course it's nothing like what I'll be constructing. I'm going for something WAY more simple. Maybe I'll figure out the scanner on this thing at some point and scan my design. Anyway, this is a form of a caparison.
They can be very elaborate (as shown here) or very simple. I'll be working on a design that's somewhere in the middle.
The funniest part about all of this is that back in the day, when I used to watch THESE guys joust, I never figured I would be one of the girlfriends that constructed some of this stuff!
I mean, after all, I was warned to stay away from "those jouster types". Heh...

Curse you St. Louis!
How is it that there aren't more accidents here when it rains??
I do have to give St. Louis folks props, to some degree, on being able to drive basically blind on the roads around here when it rains. There is just no way to see the lane markings when the road is wet, especially at night. It's miserable! You're basically guessing on where the lanes should be and hoping someone else doesn't guess that their lane overlaps where you think yours is.
Of course, what I've been saying for years was finally proven (in my mind at least) last week when I heard THIS.
Come on St. Louis! Help us out and put some decent reflective markings on our streets!

The winds of what?
As Kristi noticed the other day, this blog has a new look. I was getting tired of looking at the same colors day in and out (heh...who am I kidding, I only seem to look at it monthly at best anymore) so I thought it could use a...freshening, if you will.
Blogger doesn't have much in the way of template choices (I'll either have to switch to Wordpress or learn how to code) but this was better than nothing. Thought I would go for something a bit more...minimalistic. Yep. That's me. Aaaallll about the minimalism.
*to those of you who've seen my apartment, I apologize if you just covered your screen and/or keyboard in whatever you were eating and/or drinking. See? Your seventh grade computer teacher was justified in his "no food or drink around the computers" rule!
*you may have difficulty reading the archives as many of my earlier posts were done in white text to better contrast the green. But here's the thing. If you are truly going to read that far back, I'm sure you can be bothered to highlight the text in order to read it. 'Cause you bet your cupcakes I'm not going back to change them all! Maybe I'll get around to doing a 'favorites' list someday...

I so want picture mail
Ah well.
Found these while looking at the phone pictures. I'm still not used to thinking about taking pictures with the phone, so I had forgotten about these.
So much fun. We usually try to take the opportunity to play with the lightsabers whenever possible.
And yes, I try to take pictures whenever possible.

Once in a lifetime experiences
Ok. I've been trying to do this post for a week now. And since I'm forcing myself to do it tonight, it's not going to be good enough. There is no way to possibly describe the experience I had with K and P last Wednesday.
It's true that K and I love this band. Lucky for me, P likes them too. It's also true that we went to see them in Chicago last February since K and I had made a pact that if they ever came close to us, we would travel to see them. We were convinced they would never come to St. Louis. Boy were we wrong.
I just have to say, I have never experienced anything like sitting in the front row of the Great Big Sea concert. (how that happened is a longer story than you probably want right now...if you haven't heard it yet and would like to, let me know) Yeah, we might have acted like teenagers. Yeah, you would have thought we were "those girls". But you know...it will go down as one of the most fun things I've ever done. The only thing I regret is that I didn't have the presence of mind to pull out my camera phone and take a picture. Not...one...stinking...picture. Sad. They were SO close...
So, that was one 'once in a lifetime experience'. You may have noticed that I said 'experienceS'.
Tomorrow, I am joining the ranks (albeit temporarily) of the 'public transportation commuters'. Poor P's car is out of commission for about a week and a half. Since he has to get to Chesterfield, and I only have to go downtown, it makes more sense for him to have the car. I have a lovely coworker that will be picking me up from the Metrolink station so I don't have to ride the bus.
Wouldn't want to get that authentic. Heh.
Seriously though, ever since that trip to see GBS in Chicago last February, I've said we need better public transportation. I would LOVE to take it more often, to more places. But frankly, it's confusing. It took me almost a half an hour to try to find all the info I needed for tomorrow. And I really only needed to know what train to take so that I could make it to the Convention Center by 7:55 a.m. In Chicago, you can look at the bus stop map that is located at every stop to figure out where you need to go. You can travel on a whim if you want.
Anyway, it will be an interesting experience. I'll have to make sure I have my phone all loaded with songs, earphones in, and maybe a book so I can fit in with the crowd. Wouldn't want to stand out...
